Very Own Studio have been very good boys and girls this year and for Christmas we would really love to receive something meaningful; something funny; something beautiful and locally made; something classic that stands the test of time… here are a few hints!
How to – a monograph, manual and manifesto on how to use graphic design by Michael Bierut, partner at international design practice Pentagram.
Wallace & Sewell – we can’t get enough of these unisex silk and cashmere scarves.
Collector’s Edition – described as an essential resource for all graphic designers, this stunning book is by our friend Stuart Tolley.
Max 365 calendar – designed by Massimo Vignelli, this re-useable calendar is the epitome of timeless design (geddit?).
New York City Transit Authority Graphics Standards Manual – another Massimo Vignelli classic, this original 1960s manual has been beautifully reproduced. (If you’re after something a bit closer to home, take a look at this kickstarter campaign to reproduce the British Rail corporate identity manual)
ARCKIT – a freeform model making system that allows you to bring architectural projects to life (or lego for grown ups).
Classic brass paperclips – we didn’t realise paperclips were such a thing of beauty, this set from Present and Correct would make an ideal stocking filler.
Maison Vee’s – sterling silver jewellery, handmade by one of the Very Own Studio team (ahem).
LATTJO tangram puzzle – you can never go wrong with a little bit of Scandi in your stocking.
Wire Number – Nak Nak Design’s elegant handcrafted wire numbers for indoor and outdoor entrances are inspired by downtown neon lights.
Studio Loo – we share our studio with Claire Potter Design and Claire has gathered a talented bunch around her for the Brighton and Hove Christmas Artist’s Open Houses – Studio Loo has even been shortlisted as one of Brighton Independent’s highlights this year!
And finally, if the shopping gets a bit much, how about a donation to Brighton charity Amaze who work with families of children and young people with special education needs and disabilities. Ho ho ho!
Thank you very much Santa,
The Very Own Studio team x
