Envision is a book about visual perception written, designed and illustrated by Very Own Studio’s creative director Mark Ferguson.
The aim of the book is to explore visual perception and illusion from a new perspective, looking at how these themes have been embraced within the fields of art, design and popular culture, and reaching out to new audiences. Mark wanted to produce a well-designed book on this topic, having observed that many books on optical illusion were poorly designed.
The book is made up of a mixture of original work and historical examples. These are divided into five sections: figure ground relationships, patterns, colour, perspective and assisted viewing. The design of Envision features a strong but flexible grid system, clear visual hierarchy, large eye catching images, and bold typography. To illustrate the topics, interactive elements such as pull out sections, lenticular images and 3D glasses are included. The book is presented in a special edition box, containing 10 posters and a slipcase that animates when removed.
